One awesome thing about metal detection at the sea is you never know what you are going to find. I do have discovered quite a few interesting items plus some that I would've never expected to find. I am persuaded that metal detecting on the water is as great as it gets. The view is always great. Ocean, bikinis, apparent sky, bikinis. You get the idea.

One thing that you'll understand metal detecting at the beach is things are not steady and in fact they move a lot of times. If you don't visit the same beach on a regular basis then you hardly notice what changes are taking place on the sand or the dunes. For example I was at an inlet recently close to the jetty. They have hardwood poles in the fine sand that keep you away from going straight to the jetty. This summer those rods were about six feet tall. The other day they were just about a foot tall. Exactly what does that tell you? There's an awful lot of sand piled up there.

Now that is not always bad. There could be treats in that sand but most likely all of the goodies have been covered up. This is the reason why it is significant for you to bring the required gadgets for the beach, gizmos such as the treasure metal detectors.

You have to learn how to read the beach and every beach is unique. If I cannot find any variations in the sand like cuts, sloughs or troughs then it's a loose pattern I follow when I work which starts from the dunes and winding down to the water and back while I continue up and down the beach. In this way I may be able to see a sticky location.

A sticky spot is where a lot of things have been gathered over the years. Coins and ideally gold. These spots can be up straight to dry sand, in the wet sand and even in water. One good indication of a sticky spot is actually green coins.

They're modern coins which are corroded. They aren't worth anything at all apart from aesthetic value but they do inform you that they have been accumulated for a while in that spot. If you excavate a green coin, stall and scan the full area. When they start out appearing often, it is time to slow down and work a strong grid. Glance back where you have already been and find out if you notice a sequence and work these areas hard because there is usually jewelry around and if you are much like me you might be in search of some gold.

There are many factors that need to be taken into account before you go out and buy the most powerful binoculars that you can find. Bigger is not necessarily better as there are many features that are important to the quality of binoculars.

When someone speaks about powerful binoculars then they are referring to the magnification of the binoculars. The greater the magnification the more powerful the binocular. Along with being able to see objects that are very far away the more powerful the binoculars the more details you will be able to make out.

Along with having higher magnification objects will appear darker so you will need more light to see them properly. With very high powered binoculars this means that you will need a larger objective lens to gather more light. A larger objective lens can make the binoculars very large and heavy. Many people do not want to be toting around a huge set of binoculars so you need to take this into account.

Many times powerful binoculars tend to be very big and you should think about size. If you don't want to carry around a large set of binoculars then you may want to look for something with lower magnification. Higher magnification binoculars also will exaggerate any slight movements you make. With very high magnification you want binoculars that incorporate slight movements or you may want to bring along a tripod.

This means that you may now be carrying a lot of equipment and if you plan on doing extensive hiking and carrying your binoculars you might want to find a lighter more compact pair of binoculars. The choice is up to you.

However if you want powerful binoculars then they can be a great way to see everything up close and personal, as long as you hold them steady and have plenty of life.

If you have been looking at high end optical equipment, you may have seen big binoculars listed. It may be difficult to see how the average pair of big binoculars can differ from regular binoculars, but there are a few notable differences.

Big binoculars have two things which make them very different than other binoculars. They are able to view objects much farther away than standard binoculars. They do this by altering two key components: field of view and the level of magnification. There are very good reasons why this is the case.

Field of view is important because the wider the field of view, the larger image you can see through them. If you are viewing the night sky and want to chart stars in relation to others nearby, you need to be able to get enough of a look that you can make measurements and observations. Most binoculars will have a narrower field of view, so they are much less suitable for astronomical uses.

You also need to pay attention to the magnification factor of the binoculars you are hoping to purchase. A proper pair of big binoculars should have a magnification of 12x or lower. This is because if you choose a pair of binoculars with a higher magnification factor, you will not be able to get a clear view of the sky. Keep in mind however that even if you choose a set with a very low magnification factor, you still will see the constellations and stars in a very small size.

Some big binoculars may promise you a large objective. This sounds good, since a larger objective allows the collection of more light so that you get a clear picture. The problem is that this can make the binoculars very heavy and this can be a problem, especially if you want your set to be as portable as possible.

You need to decide where you want to purchase your big binoculars. You may find that the Internet is actually your best source since you will be able to find a better selection at extremely good prices rather than in a store which may have a relatively small selection of pairs to choose from. The choice is up to you.

There are a few disadvantages to using high powered binoculars but if you are interested in viewing objects that are very far away, like the stars, then you will need high powered binoculars.

Movement in the trees makes my muscles tense and my heart speed. I see the branching antlers and I know this is one I'm taking today. My sights line up for a clean kill through the lungs. Elk in Colorado

North America has four subspecies of Elk and there is two more that are extinct. The four subspecies are the Rocky Mountain Elk, the Roosevelt Elk, the Tule Elk and the Manitoban Elk. Wapiti is another name used for elk and the meat on these animals is leaner and greater in protein than beef or chicken and also has lower amounts of fat and cholesterol than beef, pork and chicken. One of the largest species of deer is the Wapiti.

Males, females, babies and yearling bulls are also called bulls, cows, calves and spikes, respectively. Elk are about two times bigger than mule deer and have large brown and tan bodies, dark brown necks and rumps that are light tan almost yellow. Males will grow antlers and during the winter time after mating season they will lose the antlers. During the winter a thick coat of hair will keep the insulated and this coat is grown before winter in the fall. The bulls in Colorado can weigh as much as 900 but usually average around 710 pounds and the cows average around 500 pounds. Located in the Pacific Northwest the Roosevelt Elk weigh as much as 1100 pounds which makes them the biggest of the elk species. Elk found only in California are the Tule Elk who are the smallest and can weigh 550 pounds. Rocky Mountain Elk have larger antlers and smaller sized bodies than the Manitoban Elk who are in the Midwestern US and in Canadian Prairie provinces.

In the mating season, known as the rut, the bull elk will bugle to express their dominance to other bulls as well as to cows to that are looking for the most dominant male to mate with. A bull uses their bugling power and heavily scented body from wallowing in their own urine and mud to attract cows and calves into small groups called harems. They will use their large antlers to defend their harems and will sometimes fight to the death in antler battles with other bull elk.

On average elk will live for ten to thirteen years but in captivity they have been known to live longer. They are herbivores, with a four chambered stomach, primarily being grazers feeding on grasses, plants, bark and leaves. At night elk are most active as well as during the evening and mornings. During the summer they will eat constantly and can eat as much as twenty pounds each day.

There have been projections of ten million elk roaming all places in the US and Canada ahead of the European settlement. The largest elk herd can be found in Colorado with totals close to 300 thousand from an North American high predicted at around one million. Colorado is also home to the largest group of harvested elk each year with roughly forty to fifty thousand. From the plains to the mountains and forests where they are currently found elk are magnificent. These animals are tremendously adaptive in nature and have inhabited various habitats.
